Hijab Style Tutorial By: caramelle47

A young sister from India wrote me about the fact that there are no Islamic clothing stores in her area where she can buy hijabs from. And she wanted to know if there were any hijab styles that she could create using dupattas. A dupatta is a large shawl (rectangular fabric) that typically comes as a part of a shalwar kameez suit. Usually, a dupatta is wrapped loosely around the head and/or shoulders, but in the video above, Caramelle47 shows you how to create a secure hijab style with it.

BTW… If you’re looking for more coverage or if you like really fancy hijabs, you may want to check out dupattas at your local South Asian clothing store. Or you could try googling “dupattas”. Be sure to let me know what you think of the video. [And please, no bashing, the sister obviously knows that she doesn't have on a hijab in the beginning/end of the video. That's between her and Allah, but if you feel the need to "advise" her, do so gently as Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would've done in his time... Thanks ladies! :-)]
Hijab Style Tutorial By: gwhajibi

I’ve been getting some requests lately for braided hijab styles. I found this video in which the sister demonstrates how to add a braid to your hijab. At first thought, the idea of adding a braid to your hijab seems a little weird to me, but depending on what color/print your hijabs are, I think it could work.

When wearing avant garde hijab styles like this one, I would suggest keeping the color palette simple. In the video, the sister is wearing a bright yellow hijab with a green printed hijab on top. These are very contrasting hijabs, which she probably chose for demonstration purposes (so that the hijab style could be seen easily). I would choose colors that “pop” less, like a deep purple hijab with a black braided hijab on top. I’d probably stay away from prints with this style, but of course, it’s up to you. So, what do you think of this hijab style? Would you wear a braided scarf?
I must confess that for me, there is nothing worse than a “flat hijab“. Sounds a bit silly, I know, but seriously, I can’t stand it when my hijab is flat and tight around my head and I always try to find ways to add a little volume to my hijab styles.

I found a video in which a YouTuber named Amenakin shows us a lovely (and simple) way to wear the hijab without it being flat. She adds volume to the hijab style by adding “folds” while she’s wrapping her scarf around her head. I would embed the video here, but embedding is disabled on this video so you’ll have to click the picture to watch it. Do check it out and tell me what you think of it.

And oh by the way, I’ve added a collection of about 150 How To Wear Hijab Styles video tutorials. More will be added frequently, inshaAllah…Click here to check them all out!

Sometimes we might think that wearing hijab gives us an excuse to be lazy with our hair, but we have to take care of it whether the world sees it or not.]

“HIJAB IS MAKING ME BALD!”
Over the years, I have heard of Muslim women not wearing hijab because they say that wearing hijabs makes their hair fall out. If you’re experiencing this issue, there are two things that I could think of that may be causing your seemingly-hijab-induced hair loss. Read on to find out what they are and what you can do about them.

1. Your hijab is too tight.
Your scarf does not need to be locked down like a maximum security prison! A too-tight hijab can not only cause you to lose hair around the front and back of your head, but it can also cause major headaches. To resolve this issue, you could try wearing a bigger underscarf (some of those tiny ones don’t work so well with thicker heads of hair). You could also loosen your hijab and/or wear hijabs that are a bit stretchy. Your hair and head will thank you for it!

2. Your hair is too dry.
When dry hair rubs up against fabrics like the ones that you’ll find in most hijabs, the hair can break off from the friction. To resolve this issue, I have three suggestions for you…

i) Keep your hair well-moisturized by using an oil like coconut oil (olive oil and most other oils will not moisturize your hair; they will just sit on top of your hair without penetrating it). Or you could use a moisturizing conditioner like V05 Moisture Milks Moisturizing Conditioner (this is what I use on my hair and I love it!), just be sure to leave the conditioner in your hair and do not rinse it out.

ii) If your hair is long enough, be sure to keep the ends of your hair tucked in and away from the fabric of your scarf. This can be accomplished by wearing your hair in a bun, a french roll, braids, or a similar style under your scarf.

iii) Only wear smooth, silk scarves for hijabs. Hijabs made out of silk will not cause friction with your hair and thus your hair will be less likely to break and fall out.

Now, tell me: Have you ever experienced this or other beauty-related issues caused by hijab? How did you resolve them?

In this series of videos, a Muslimah called TheAmericanTurk uses a Barbie doll to demonstrate different ways to wear hijab. As someone who doesn’t like to be on camera, I can appreciate using a doll to show how to wear hijab. But at the same time, I used to find it annoying to do hairstyles on a doll, so trying to do a hijab style on a Barbie doll would probably be even worse! Nevertheless, I think that this is a cute series of videos and the demonstrations are really useful.

The descriptions for each video start the same way…:

For this Hijab style we will use a triangular Hijab. Make sure you have an underscarf before you start and place the triangular hijab in the middle of your head make sure each side of the scarf is even!

…And end the same way.:

To dress up and cover your neck you can:

1- Use this style on top of a basic hijab
2- Use a turtle neck
3- Use another scarf and cover around your neck.

Check out the videos below and let me know what you think. (Additional steps from the video descriptions are included below each one.)

Steps:
1- Place a triangular hijab almost about half way in your head leaving one side longer than the other.
2- Now tuck the hijab behind your neck and pin in place.
3-Now take the shorter side of the scarf and make a roll with it.
4-Place the roll across the top of your head.
5-Then place the longer side around your neck and by the head meeting the tip of the roll across and pin.

The “Crowning of the Queen” is my favorite video although sometimes I wear the braided style around the house. Which one is your favorite? Which one would could you see yourself wearing?

Video : Winter Tips for Hijabis by thevintagegoth

I found this <a href="http://welovehijab.com/tag/hijab-videos/"; target="new">hijab video on YouTube tonight. In the video, the sister is giving a few tips for hijabis to use in the Winter time. The one that I really like is the first tip, which is to wear two hijabs instead of one in the Winter. Instead of wearing a really thick scarf (which I never do… I just suffer through the cold air until I get in the car!), she says to wear your usual hijab and then wrap a thicker scarf around your head. You’ll see in the video!

Tell us, what are your tips for how to wear hijab in the Winter time?

My sister (and former <a href="http://welovehijab.com/2008/04/14/haute-hijabi-amani/"; target="new">Haute Hijabi), Amani created a nice How To Wear Hijab video tutorial.
