I’ve been getting some requests lately for braided hijab styles. I found this video in which the sister demonstrates how to add a braid to your hijab. At first thought, the idea of adding a braid to your hijab seems a little weird to me, but depending on what color/print your hijabs are, I think it could work.


When wearing avant garde hijab styles like this one, I would suggest keeping the color palette simple. In the video, the sister is wearing a bright yellow hijab with a green printed hijab on top. These are very contrasting hijabs, which she probably chose for demonstration purposes (so that the hijab style could be seen easily). I would choose colors that “pop” less, like a deep purple hijab with a black braided hijab on top. I’d probably stay away from prints with this style, but of course, it’s up to you. Today’s Hijab Style Find is a hijab style essential in my opinion. It’s a long cardigan that has big buttons — which I love — and a ribbed texture which makes it just a bit more casual. This long cardi comes in four festive colors, all at around $20 each — depending on what size you need.


Hijab Style Tip:
They’re calling this sweater a “boyfriend cardigan” — which usually means that the sweater fits really loosely. But, as you can see in the pic, this particular cardigan is slim cut. It also has a very deep V-neckline, so you’ll have to be a bit careful about what you wear it with.

I would suggest wearing it open over very full and flowy items, like a cotton maxi dress. HINT: This is a great way to take your summer dresses into the Fall & Winter seasons! Unless you want to fidget with your hijab all day to make sure that your chest is covered properly, you’ll want to wear a tank top underneath of your dress as well if the dress is also low-cut. Or you could wear a large hijab and wrap it in such a way that it would cover you enough.

EID HIJAB STYLES : THE JEANS

Today’s Eid Hijab Styles post is for those of you who love, love, love wearing jeans. I don’t think that jeans are a no-no for Eid. As long as you wear a pair of dark wash jeans – rather than light or faded ones – and pair them with dressier pieces, your outfit will be very Eid-appropriate.

For my collage, I paired a nice wide leg jean with a silk dress (go up a size for a looser fit on this one!). To make the look a little more fancy, I added a pretty teal hijabs, a triple-strand pearl bracelet, and a cocktail ring – because they’re my favorite.

EID HIJAB STYLES : THE FANCY LITTLE DRESS

If you’re anything like me, you’re getting started a little late on your Eid outfit shopping. Over the next few days, I’ll be posting some Eid Hijab Styles that will give you a variety of ideas on how to dress up for the upcoming Eid.

Up first is the Fancy Little Dress. Fancy mini dresses are very pretty and very easy to modify in order to create hijab-approved looks. To create your outfit, choose a fancy dress in a bright color or one that has some sort of embellishment on it. I chose a blush-brown dress that has sequins and ruching detail on it.

Next, throw on a bunch of black! A black hijab, black dress pants, a fancy black shoe, and a black cardigan for arm coverage. Add an interesting cocktail ring and you’re all set.

This is an easy and effortless way to get dressed because you probably already have many of these items in your closet. As always, you can find the featured items in the links section below. – And don’t mind the prices; you can find similar items for any budget at your favorite store or website.

HIJABS DU JOUR : FALL 2009 FASHION TRENDS – PLAID

In this edition of Hijabs Du Jour, I’m featuring the oft-recurring plaid trend. Plaid is popular every Fall season, but sometimes plaid clothing can be a bit much for my taste. So, I’ve found some plaid hijabs to suit any style, from playful and bold to subtle and chic.

In the collage, I featured a girly pink hijab; a bold and colorful hijab; a classic tartan style hijab; a soft pastel-toned hijab; and a subtle, tonal black hijab.

My fave out of all the hijabs above is No. 3, the classic plaid style. I think it would look nice with a simple black abaya, or with a long black skirt and classic white button up shirt. You could even wear that one with jeans…

HIJAB FASHION TRENDS : FALL 2009 – BIKER CHIC

For this edition of Hijab Fashion Trends, I am focusing on the tough side of the runways – the Biker Fashion Trend.

The biker fashion trend is all about the hard and sturdy: leather [Leather hijabs, anyone?], heavy metal, zippers and chains… anything that is the opposite of overt femininity.

Because I adore being feminine, I have created a look that is more chic than it is biker. The frilly leather blazer, pink maxi dress, studded clutch, stylish booties, and hammered gold ring all add up to a look that is hijab-friendly and biker chic.

HIJAB FASHION TRENDS : FALL 2009 – RUFFLES

Ruffles are a huge fashion trend this season – and they are everywhere! Yesterday at the mall, I saw at least 4 ruffled shirts or dresses in every store that I went into. Although the ruffled styles were pretty, I was a little disappointed because most of the clothes featured ruffles at the neckline which is always covered up by my hijab. (For an example, click here to see the dress that was featured in the last Hijab Fashion Trends post).

So, how can a hijab-wearing woman get in on this feminine trend? She can wear ruffles on her accessories. In the collage above, you’ll see some gorgeously ruffled bags and shoes. I included low to high-priced items so there is something for everyone…

HIJAB STYLE FINDS : ABAYA

If you’ve been looking for a nice abaya that is affordable and pretty, check out East Essence. I found about 60 pretty abaya styles for under $40 each. HIJAB STYLE FINDS : TIERED LONG PEASANT SKIRT

If you do buy it you would of course need to wear something to cover the rest of your arm (like a long sleeve black tee or something). Just a little FYI.*

Today’s Hijab Style Find, is this pretty long skirt by Chadwicks. More than anything, I love the $25 price tag (!!), but I also love the fact that this skirt has a modern tiered design and it comes in some juicy, Summery colors.

I would wear this long skirt with a white tank top, a lightweight black cardigan, and black strappy sandals. For the hijabs, I chose a stripe-printed hijab that features all of the colors in my outfit.

HIJABS DU JOUR : PYTHON PRINTS

In this edition of Hijabs Du Jour, I’m featuring the “wildly popular” python print trend. Ok, so I’m being a little corny! But, the trend is really hot right now and I was able to find a number of hijabs that work back to it.

I already have a nice python print hijab in my collection, but I think that I need to pick up scarf number one above. I love the color and the print is really unique because it’s a floral python print. So pretty!
