HIJAB STYLE FINDS: LONG DENIM SKIRT

Today’s hijab style set is full of neutral textures. The featured item, a long denim skirt by Shukr Islamic Clothing, is a classic wardrobe essential, but the pleating detail makes it a bit more special than the average long denim skirt. A soft cardigan contrasts the stiffness of the denim, while the woven handbag and nubby, suede boots add additional elements of texture. To finish off the look, I chose a fringed, pink hijab which adds even more texture and a pretty pop of color.

Speaking for Shukr, I emailed them regarding the length of their skirts & dresses. I had bought a skirt from them but it was tooooo long! I have yet to get it taylored, which costs a lot here in NYC. I emailed them to see if they’ll offer soon a tayloring option for shorter or taller women, but they don’t plan to at all. For those of you who love their skirts and dresses, please email them. If we can get a lot of requests, maybe they’ll start listening. I know of two other websites that offer this, but my favorite is still Shukr, even though I refuse to buy at such high prices and then on top of that spend money getting it taylored.
I’d appreciate all your help, sisters!
Salaam.

I love the boots, totally my style.

I like the white cardigan but I find that most white cardigans show what you are wearing underneath. So you are forced to wear it with long sleeves.

I have a question though: Are we supposed to call the company and find out the source of leather in shoes, purses, jackets?

Oh, I love that skirt! And the boots, too! Very nice outfit

ASA, I love the whole entire look. I will be putting in my order soon.

Thanks for the fashion. Also, waiting for the summer looks.

Salam, ladies! Thanks for the comments.

@Maftuna: Yes, the length is what deters me from buying it as well. I think that hemming the bottom of the skirt would ruin the look of it a little. :-/

@Tina: Why would you need to check for the source of the leather?

I love this mashallah so cute! Love the color of the hijab.

tina 02.26.10 at 3:09 am

Oh, because I thought it is harram to wear anything made out of pig skin. True????

mira 02.26.10 at 11:53 am

$108 for a purse? Seriously? Lets be realistic here, you could have found a bag just as cute if not cuter for much less money!

Huda 02.27.10 at 1:56 pm

Love the boots!

Maftuna 03.01.10 at 2:30 pm

Tina,
I’ve never heard of it being haram to wear anything made from pig hide (skin). I thought it was only when it comes to eating swine that we should avoid. I’m not sure. Does anyone else know about this?
Thanks

Maftuna 03.01.10 at 2:33 pm

@ We love hijab, I agree about the hemming comment. It might ruin the look, which is why I was hoping they have like a petite selection with the patterns slightly placed above the hemline or something. Since you have some sort of contact with them (they have ads on your website), maybe you can use your power / connections to convey this message.
P.S. love your site, it’s very addicting, love the discussions/comments by other hijabis from around the world.

i can get the purse for much cheaper. Forever 21 has a version like that for $25.00 @ [...] also try payless and h&m.

Elsa 03.02.10 at 5:50 am

wow, the skirt is really cute. i love it

SanaMo 03.02.10 at 11:04 pm

Pigskin is considered najis (impure), so anyone wearing it would be unable to pray in it.

WE LOVE HIJAB 03.02.10 at 11:39 pm

@SanaMo : You brought up an interesting point. I never considered the possibility that pigskin could be an impure material. However, I’d love to see some proof that shows that pigskin is najis in and of itself. I mean, of course we can’t eat the meat, but I can’t understand why the skin itself (if it’s cleaned) would be considered unfit for wearing in general (whether during prayer or not).
