DESIGNER HIJAB STYLE : SILK HIJABS

In case you haven’t heard of it, ideeli is an invitation-only shopping website that offers limited-time sales events on designer brands at deep discounts. My sister invited me to join the site 2 weeks ago and I’ve been addicted to it ever since. I check it every day to see if they’ve got anything on sale that’s cute and hijab-worthy and today I made a great find! They’re selling silk scarves by Christian Lacroix! I don’t really care about labels, but some people do, and either way the scarves are really pretty. The one above is $54, but you can’t check it out unless you’re a member of ideeli. Here’s your personal invitation. Sign up (it’s free) and let me know what styles you got, if any.

This is a beautiful scarf, but isn’t it haram to wear silk? I am a new to the muslim faith and I was told silk and gold are big No, Nos. Was I misinformed?

@LaDonWilliams: Silk and gold are haram for men according to some hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), but this does not apply to women.

Goodness, I guess people pay for the name. I am sorry but 300$ for a scarf is just nuts (reminds me of Burberry madness). What, they are engraved in gold or smth? :) Even 100$ is nuts. The most I’ve paid for a scarf is 60$. I felt really guilty but it was sooo gorgeous I had to have it. But all my other scarves are below 20$. I am a strong believer of dressing both modestly (islamically and price wise) and tastefully.

But I admit this guy’s scarves are eye catchy and they must feel oh so soft. :)

I love what you post but maybe there should be some more “Hijab Styles for Less” seeing as there is a recession and a lot of us are trying to be more frugal. Love the scarf though!

Imani 02.26.10 at 11:54 am

I must admit that the scarf is beautiful, but I agree that it is over-priced!

Mariam 02.26.10 at 12:15 pm

Real silk scarves are pretty expensive…Ive looked up a lot of Turkish brands before and they were too much. I have been able to occasionally find 100% silk ones at TJMaxx for like $16-but they are not from top designers and it is rare that I find them. I like these, but Pucci scarves are SOOOOO much cuter! (but are quite pricey as well).

@tina : I agree, $300 is way too much to spend on a scarf. Not sure if you’re talking about the ideeli sale though because I didn’t see anything that was that high. The price range for the silk hijabs in that sale are from $44-$99.

@mira: “Hijab Styles for Less” is a great name for a post and inshaAllah I’ll do some posts like that on a regular basis. ;-)

@Mariam: Gotta love TJ Maxx! :o) … Turkish hijabs are so gorgeous (and expensive). Maybe you could try ebay for some silk Pucci hijabs?

Huda 02.27.10 at 1:54 pm

Wow, yeah, too expensive for me! Looove some of the clothes at that site…

A post for “Hijabs for less”: try [...]. I’ve placed a few orders with them. Nothing really fancy, but definitely worth the price! The photos don’t do the scarves justice.

I’m not sure whether it is haram or not but it should be. It is obligatory for muslims to be kind to animals and value animal wellfare, therefore I don’t think silk is allowed, as it comes from caterpillars who are killed for it …. . There are so many other nice fabrics, why would anyone want to wear silk

hannah 03.28.10 at 4:37 pm

Silk and gold are allowed for WOMEN in islam, not for MEN.
and yeah, i agree with other ppl sayin that $300 is alot.. its actually ridiculous! I could buy 20 (maybe more) hijabs instead. The hijabs here cost like 10-20 dollars, so.. :|

Thank you for giving out invitations. I am an addict of scarves. I think they are the best accessory there is. I have two from armani. They are very soft!

Silk like gold (and many other materialistic objects) is limited in Islam but not forbidden for women.

Stephanie 09.16.10 at 3:01 am

I’m not a Muslim or Indian but I love those hijab styles. Thank you so much. It was a great blog.
