I actually like the first dress… But isn’t it typical of the fashion world to steal ideas from other cultures and era’s and claim it as their own?! They don’t even acknowledge these cultures for it either.. and celebrities and people alike go around flashing these items none-the-wiser. It happens everyday… So sad.

I don’t know how it will look in real life but I like the third dress. I’d wear it with light grey pants and a black hijab with gray accents.

@mez4prez this isnt stealing an idea from anyone, its just sleeves under a shirt , no one can claim that

As salaamu alaykum

All three outfits are lovely; the colors, the style/cut, I’d rock ‘em all! I think long-sleeved tees are Muslimahs’ “little black dresses” in that they are a staple part of our wardrobe that we wear year round! So, yeah, I agree with the statement that they are late…just a lil’ bit! LOL Although, I do agree with ‘pumpmar’ in that the style shouldn’t be attributed to any particular culture. Even my sons (as well as so many other boys I’ve seen) have jumped on the bandwagon by layering a short-sleeved tee over a longer-sleeved one when the weather proves a bit chilly.

As Salam Alaikum, I just found this site and I love it. I have been Muslim for 6 years now and I have worn, no hijab, hijab with abaya, niqab and back to hijab. I never knew muslimahs dressed like this and that you van have fashion and hijab.
I would totaly wear the 2nd dress with a grey long sleeved shirt, a yellow khimar and a brown khimar, dark wash wide leg jeans or black wide leg pants, and sliver flats.

Very interesting post! I have to agree that Hijabis can’t lay claim to the long sleeve tee, but then neither can an American designer, right? ;) Anyhow, keep up the great work! Its very inspiring to the rest of us Hijabis out there :) Oh and love the 3rd dress! :D

i really dont think the designer was trying to lay claim to the long sleeved t’s and maybe was definitely inspired

Long sleeves have gone in and out of style for time immemorial, and they will continue to do so – ad infinitum. Long sleeves have probably been around since people have had arms. Trying to take credit for inventing the “long sleeve” would be akin to taking credit for inventing sand. If you want a real measure of who has invented what, take a gander at the list of Nobel winners, but let’s get back to fashion. As far as the comment about borrowing from other cultures. All I can ask is who’s doing the borrowing here? Every article of clothing selected for this article is something that was designed by a westerner and is in line with current western trends in fashion. It is taking western fashion pieces and trends, and adapting them to your own clothing needs. So again, who is doing the borrowing here?

I Love it… just to point out an interesting fact.. Max Azria IS of Arab descent ! He was born in Sfax, Tunisia, a muslim country.. so voilà ! there can definitely be an islamic/ oriental influence on his designs ^^ !!

I think these dresses are a little silly, since they only look good because they look expensive… I always wear a half- or full sleeve under my sleeveless dresses, as well as under tank tops or other strappy shirts to show off the design. There’s nothing new about it!!! Also, I’m pretty sure long sleeves were invented by people who wanted to cover their arms, hence the emergence of it everywhere, a way long time ago. (ha..haha….) But yes, very boxy style, don’t know if I like it, especially paired with scarf….. Can’t imagine any style of wrapping that I would pair with that….. at all….!!!

I do not like designs. However, I am glad that even Western world understand that it is time to hide some skin. I live in western society, and when I first moved here, I was shocked how little clothes people can wear. I am glad that they are getting the point that there should be mystery in women. It makes them look beatiful, in my opinion. When it is all showed, there is nothing more to see, so the girl stop being desirable. The irony is, that is exactly what they are trying to achieve with this clothes.
I always amazed how sisters look on the street. They are different. And I mean in a good way. There is some mystery, but modesty at the same time. I think that is how women should be. I once read the quote by one of the brothers: the most beatiful things in nature are hidden.

the sad thing is, people worship this tool. they actually spend thousands of dollars they dont have to buy clothes that aren’t worth a single penny -.-
