amenakinhijabstyleFEATURED HIJAB STYLE TUTORIAL

I must confess that for me, there is nothing worse than a “flat hijab“. Sounds a bit silly, I know, but seriously, I can’t stand it when my hijab is flat and tight around my head and I always try to find ways to add a little volume to my hijab styles.

I found a video in which a YouTuber named Amenakin shows us a lovely (and simple) way to wear the hijab without it being flat. She adds volume to the hijab style by adding “folds” while she’s wrapping her scarf around her head. I would embed the video here, but embedding is disabled on this video so you’ll have to click the picture to watch it. Do check it out and tell me what you think of it.

And oh by the way, I’ve added a collection of about 150 How To Wear Hijab Styles video tutorials. More will be added frequently, inshaAllah…Click here to check them all out!

Sallaaaam! I have a question/concern that has been on my mind. I am a convert to Islam alhamduliah! :) In my knowledge of Islam, when you make wudu for prayer you have to wash the face. All of it, including eye lids/lashes. How do sisters whom wear much make up do this 5 times a day? Are you constantly reapplying? I do not wear makeup, so I just don’t get it really. Thanks!

Maybe they reapply the makeup over and over again. Maybe they look at the example of the fact that you can wipe water over your socks when making wudhu as long as your feet are clean inside of the socks. I don’t really know. A main concept of wudhu is to purify the most often exposed body parts in order to prepare for prayer. If your face is clean under your foundation (for example), what is the need to go beneath the surface dirt that may be on top of the makeup? Wudhu is not a bath, it is just meant to wash away surface dirt – makeup is not dirt.

This is how look at it. I don’t have any Qur’aanic verse/fatwa/hadith to cite, but if you have more information, please share. :-)

Wa ‘alaikum as-salaam, sisters

Answering the question above about makeup: I use waterproof makeup (or as waterproof as they can get, as not many pigments are 100% water resistant) and then pat the face dry, instead of rubbing it with a towel. I don’t reapply during the day.

Hope that helps :o)

Amena

PS: thanks for the comments & I’m glad the video helped

Assalam Alaykum sisters,
I am happy and appreciate the beautiful effort of my sisters all over the world. In as much as we have different types of hijab styles, I will not want us to forget the conditions and purpose of hijab. The hijab should cover our adornment and I dont think it will be proper using an adornment to cover an adornment. By so doing, the purpose of hijab might have been defeated. Allahu A’laam (Allah knows best).
May Allah increase us all in knowledge and understanding of the deen.

I agree with Ahmed Maryam. We should not use brouches (sp?) and other kinds of adornments over the hijab to adorn ourselves when in fact we are trying to cover our natural adornments (e.g. hair)

salaam everyone!
Just wanted to answer the makeup question…. with hijab, to put it simply, we are not supposed to bring attention to our selves, through makeup or jewelry or elaborate attention-grabbing colors and styles.
With hijab, it is supposed to be PRESENTABLE, but not beautiful…because even if our hair is covered and we emphasize our features with make-up, then the purpose of hijab is defeated.

Dear sisters,
I believe that I read in “Salaat from A to Z” that all lotions, creams, and makeup should be removed for Salat, but I suppose that we must draw our own conclusions…
I also believe in not dressing flashily, but there’s a big difference between looking pretty in a way that makes you look nice, and looking flashy in a way that makes men look at you. I can confirm this from personal experiences. I am not a trend follower, and I’m a hijabi, so I wear very loose shirts and skirts for school uniform. I have noticed that even though girls have complimented me on having my own unique modest style many times, no boy has ever looked at me in a ‘crush’ sort of way, and I would never be defined as pretty by them, although I would by other girls. Also, the Sahabiyat and even the Mothers of the Believers wore colored clothing and jewelry, but they drew the line at jewelry that jangled or made noise, or overly bright colors. Please, sisters, do not make haram what Allah (SWT) had made halal for us!

I really liked this style, but I do think that the brooch makes it seem too much! I’d do this without the brooch, because it’s a lovely style mashallah!

Assalamu Alaikum,
there are a few concerns that i may wish to convey, since ‘Islam is sincere Advice’ to one another. Iam not an extremist or anything, just someone trying to follow and striving to abide what was brought forth by the Qur’an and the sunnah.
Make up: it is haraam (forbidden) since there are reports that the Prophet (saw) said that a woman who leaves her house wearing make-up and perfume are viewed as ‘prostitutes’. furthermore, there are sound and authentic ahaadiths (daleel) that defends these.
Afterall we are the followers of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and he is the best role model and example for us at any given time, era, ect…

Wearing hijab is an art especially Syrian style long scarf where a cap is wore under the layer of a shawl. The video above is good enough to learn. Thanks for the video.

Assalam Aleykoum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh,

I would just like to emphasize that when you make wudhu you have to wash your face. It certainly not need to be a bath but it needs to be done.
Allah in the quran says:
“O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salaah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles.”Al maedah verse 6
You can’t say that is like wiping over the socks because it is a totally different issue.

Allahu ‘Alam

Wassalam Aleykoum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh.

Sisters, we really shouldn’t be wearing waterproof make up whilst we are praying, because as you can tell from the name, its “Water Proof” which means water will not wash it off. We know that during wudhu we need to wet every single part of our face, including eye lashes – now how can water touch our lashes if we has a thick layer of water proof mascara on? I personally do not think our wudhu is correct if we have our make up on, which will then mean our salah is not done – I would not take the risk.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

The style is beautiful, masha Allah. As for the make up: if nail polish must be removed before wudhu since water does not reach the nail through the polish, then surely the same would apply to mascara, which does not allow water to reach the lashes?

I too believe full make up is not ok because the water with some make up doesn’t touch the skin, but what IS halal is kohl (ithmid) and if u have a concealer handy just to cover the “imperfections” u can always dab on the dots. Fatima ra the daughter of arRasul is known to have worn a bracelet on each wrist because emphasizing femininity (not being like a man) is sooooooo so important. This is the best women of Islam. She is also known to have worn a beige abaya. I myself do wear full make-up unfortunately but I am aware of it being wrong so at least u can ask for forgiveness when u know ur doing something wrong. Long live the hijab!!! May God never let anyone banish it from the people who want to wear it. Hijab IS Islam!!
