WHAT NOT TO WEAR à la HIJAB : SHEATH DRESSES
This is the first of a new WE LOVE HIJAB segment that many people have been requesting: a hijabi version of What Not To Wear. In these posts I’m going to be your Trinny & Susannah, and Clinton & Stacey. And I’m going to show you What Not To Wear (or how to wear things that you normally couldn’t)!
Up first, are sheath dresses. Sheath dresses are a really big trend right now, but they’re not hijab-fashion friendly for a couple of reasons:
[1] They’re tight.
[2] They’re short.
[3] They’re sleeveless (usually).
For these reasons, I wouldn’t normally recommend sheath dresses to a hijabi, BUT, there is one thing about these dresses that makes them wearable. The length. Sheath dresses are usually mid-thigh length, which makes them great underthings when you’re wearing longer blazers and cardigans. Check out the look below and tell me, are you feeling sheath dresses?

[1] INC International Concepts Dress, Printed Short Sleeve Sheath, $59.25. [2] Ponte Knit Long Jacket, $79+. [3] Her Majesties Pearl Locket Necklace, $36. [4] Pashmina Shawl, $15. [5] Ponte Knit Wide-Leg Pants, $29.99. [6] Pura Lopez N251 Mary Jane Pumps, $160.17.

gorgeous!!!
i mean this fashion gorgeous ..plus with d jacket.and it cover our aurat…..
i love it.
I personally would layer them over both trousers and a long skirt simultaneously, and then put some sort of topper on to counteract that close fit.
I personally would get a size bigger on the dress, layer it with a silk turtleneck and trousers. It would look really nice.
I love it. I have a few dresses like this and wear this look often. I don’t have any jackets like the one displayed though, not my style, I usually wear it with a light sweater.
Very elegant mashallah! Love it!
love the look but VERY expensive!
Looks good and covers as well. Thanks for the post.
I love those! I don’t wear them with jackets–usually with cropped cardigans. It’s great that you’re finally updating again! You were away for…what, three months?
love this look….personally the pants are my favorite they arent tight and very nice.
hi
this look very gorgeous , nice and also very chic .
The dress itself is so gorgeous. I love the prints. Definitely if you pair it with a blazer it should be a great outfit, especially for work.
i need to know where i can get cheap turtle necks online/singapore!!! i dont want those thick ones, cause singapore has summer all year ’round.
Salaams,
I found this site a few weeks ago and i think its awesome. i’ve recently started wearing hijab all the time…. before i used to wear it to got to the masjid, functions and islamic classes….and could not figure out how to be modern and modest at the same time. But this site is really helping me to see the bigger picture. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Awesome segment!
Love the outfit!
to yasmin
you’re very welcome ,i’m so happy for you hijab is the best things you get
congratulations
subhanAllah i always see this brand because my husband works at the mall and i am always walking through macys and they are at the entrace toward his store last year they had beautiful maxi dresses and always dresses like that one and shirts nice long and long sleeve but they are just so much to pay for but they are beautiful. but even with shirts/dresses like the one above i was suprised to see a non recomendation for it becuase it still looked like it could be ‘hijabified’ with a jacket/blazer/cardigan or something or like one sister said a turtleneck or even some armgaurds or sleeves you know the kind we wear with 3/4 sleeve length shirts or under abayas
As’salam Alaikum,
Love the look, and I love sheath dresses and tunics. They are coming in longer styles. For example they are coming almost knee length, which I found a few at Old Navy during the summer. Though they are 3/4 sleeves I wear an under shirt and slakes and it looks great. Or if they are a little too short I do the same but with a skirt.
Hello,
I am a recent convert/revert and this website has been an inspiration for me. I am not yet wearing hijab but I am dressing modestly and have bought several scarves as I continue to prepare for the day when I will be able to wear it, Inshalla. However, I am very distressed to see that you have cut off the faces of the girls on the website. I have been visting your site since the spring ( I converted in July) and seeing these girls, who look just like me, is what helped me to conceive of wearing hijab and still look good. I have only a few muslim girl friends who do not wear hijab and the only muslim women I know who do wear it are older, so it was very refreshing for me to see young women wearing it and also refreshing to know that I do not have to look “dowdy” to follow my religion. I read earlier comments about how some men (perverts) might be looking at the site but I don’t think you should let a few crazy people make you change the web site. For me and for many women like me this site gives us ideas for how to wear the hijab and it inspires us to know that we are not alone and that it is ok to be beautiful and praise Allah.
Please reconsider.
This style looks so chic i love it… but i would take another colour of the hairscarf … Thank you for posting this ;)
my friend wears sheath dresses and hijab but she does it in a innapropriate way. i don’t like the way she doesn’t wear a jacket /cardigan over the top of the dress even though it is mid length sleeve. i love the way you’ve styled the sheath dress here though, it looks fashionable and doesn’t show too much.
Asalam Alaikum,
I have to commend you on this site! May Allah bless you for reminding us to wear the hijab appropriately and showing us that we can still be trendy while doing so! I love your sense of style and your commitment to bot your passions and your deen. May Allah reward your efforts!
Salaam!! I read once that women should not wear high heels… or rather just can not “strike” their heels as it was mentioned in Hadith. Because it attracts attention such as the scent of perfume and other things we should be careful of in the Hijab wardrobe (tight clothing, “flashy-ness”, etc.) Do the shoes on your website click-clack when you walk? Just curious. Because if they do not make noise, they are permissible correct? Otherwise, shouldn’t they be avoided? Nevertheless, most of the time they are uncomfortable. I prefer comfortable flats! I would love to see some more of that! Well, thanks! This Jacket is SO PERFECT! I wish it were a little less expensive (college student here!)… but I suppose it is a good price if the quality is nice. *Sigh* I just can’t afford it, lol! Anyway, I was just messaging inquiring about the high heel thing. Take care, inshAllah!
I have been looking at hijab style sites and blogs (there seem to be a million of them recently). I have been a little dissapointed becuase these sites showcase outfits and styles that show hijab as mearly covering hair and not the full body. They almost make it seem that dressing in loose fitting outfits is only for older women. What I love about this site is how its very proper. No skinny jeans, belts, or tight fitting clothes on display. Then anyone can modify it for their comfort level. Thank You Sister Kima!!!
Very nice look. You can tell the sister has gusto. ;) I wear this look often; however I have found most of the sheath dresses to be at almost knee length and I always buy them a few sizes larger so that they are appropriately loose. I do what another sister suggested….wear a matching undershirt instead of jackets/sweater.
I agree with one of the sisters that this look is expensive (especially for a college student), however you can get a look of similar beauty or even better at stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross. Today I bought 5 dresses for only 125$. I shop regularly at Macy’s, Black and White, but I think the dresses I got at TJ Maxx were much prettier to what is being sold at these stores recently. I just don’t know how to post pictures on this site, otherwise I would have so that perhaps some sisters could get inspired to shop more at stores such as TJ Maxx.

Assalam, I was wondering why my 2 latest messages where deleted. Is it a technical problem or did I say something innapropriate?
