HAUTE HIJABI : ANGIE
The Hijabi:
Angie, a 17 year-old Egyptian-American high school senior from NJ, USA.
Angie on her Haute Hijab Style:
“I have been wearing the hijab for 8 years now ever since the September 11 attacks in New York City. I saw many of my Muslim friends taking the hijab off because they were afraid of being targeted or picked on at school. I instead, chose to put the hijab on because I did not feel that the Muslim ummah should feel embarrassed for who they were. Instead, I believed that we should all stand up together and become united. As I attended my high school and got to know a few other Muslims, I started an MSA along with my sister. Through the MSA we brought together many Muslims both in the school and the community. Before the MSA, everyone had just kept to themselves, but now, we are all like a family. Every year, more people join, even non-Muslims and we help the community by volunteering at soup kitchens, mosques, and even have banquets for the high school and the community about Islam and the Middle East.
I own over 100 hijabs. The hijab is my life. I love to match my clothes all the time with my hijab, from head to toe. I even match my pins with my outfit! Because I am the only hijabi at my high school with over 2,000 people, I like to be the best dressed. I shop at stores like Forever 21, Wet Seal, Macy’s, Charlotte Russe, Necessary Clothing, and a few other small shops in New York City. I buy my hijabs when I go to Egypt or at random in stores that sell scarfs. Having hijabs’ is a little bit more easier now that non-Hijabis and Muslims wear scarves on a daily basis.
The biggest tip that I can give to anyone about the hijab is to not over think it. When I get an outfit ready, I never over think how I will match. Even when I am shopping, if I love a pair of shoes or shirt, I just buy it without giving much thought to what it would match with. Also, it’s extremely important to have your clothes organized and arranged so that when you get an outfit together, it is easy to put clothes together.”

“Don’t pay attention to any negative comment about showing your hair in one of the pics!”
What is this? I think she should pay attention to that, because the hair must be hidden.
Great style though, mashAllah.
MashaAllaah… clothing is fieeeerce!!!!
But if someone comments on her hair, it isn’t negative, just a reminder, and she shouldn’t ignore it.. because what we want for ourselves we should also want for our brothers and sisters in Islam..

I think what you did took alot of courage, maashaAllaah.Especially after 9.11.It’s hard enough for a young girl to wear hijaab, and a young girl at that age and under those circumstances?May Almighty Allaah reward you.
I love the black mac that the sister wears in the pic on the right, anyone know which one it is??
im egyption too yay.anyways love everything but make sure ur hair is coverd.and keep on being strong and remmember we r never alone.ALLAH is with us everywhere we are.
I like ur abaya style.can u please snd me nice pics abaya.thank u
My question is Hijabs are worn in the muslim faith to praise in honor your “Allah?” or out of respect for men, culture? what’s the difference and if so? why would women be embrassed to stand up for their faith?
You are really a beautiful girl, but why do u show your hair with a hijab?
nice hijabs, love you
You are very beatiful mashallah , these arent negative comments this is just some advicebut yes there will be no use of haijab if you dont cover your hair .
Beautiful!
MashaAllaah,
That is really a good thing because most Muslims just take off their hijabs because maybe most of their friends don’t wear it and they want to be like them, or because they get picked on a lot. I wear my hijab 24-7 my mother doesn’t approve of all my sister not wearing their hijab, and yeah we trendy it up with forever 21 , hollister and more. But you will always see us with our hijabs on. I really don’t care what people think of me or my hijab if they say something about it its just them being the smaller person. wearing my hijab is also a way of expressing your self because you can wear different colors prints that can match your outfit. At my school i attend theirs only like 3-4 Muslims there. most of them don’t wear hijab, because of those reasons. But i like wearing mine.
My tip to all the Muslim girls would have to be: Wear different kinds of hijabs to express who you are and what your are really trying to get out there. Different color’s or patterns that would be really different.
Hey this is some food for thought; no-one should feel embarrassed by covering their hair because its a beautiful commandant of G-d in the long run and it is relatively easy. People easily get caught up in what is the social norm, so today its no longer popular to cover ones hair when just 50 years ago every respectable woman wore a hat out in public. It is only recently that woman have stopped covering their hair. Throughout history the only women that did not cover their hair where whores and slaves. We easily fall into traps of what is socially acceptable but we must remember that woman who expose themselves often wind up desensitizes both themselves and men to a woman’s inner and outer beauty.
I know that Muslims believe in the Torah, New Testament, and Quran, so I just wanted to give people an idea on head covering according to Torah law. Firstly, head-covering is mentioned via the adulterous woman (isha sotah) in the Torah. The high-priest would bring her to the courtyard of the holy temple (beis Hamikdash) and remove her head-covering for all the women to see. It was to bring her shame. Secondly, Jewish law states once a woman marries her hair has the status of nakedness (ervah), it would be like walking outside with your breasts out. Thirdly, your hair is beautiful and reserved specially for your husband’s eyes, (although any men who are directly related to you by blood may see your hair). Fourthly, Judaism considers hair to be very physical and it almost blocks your connection with G-d when you are caught up in a materialistic lifestyle which is another reason to cover it. That is the source of it in Judasim and I just wanted to share it with Muslim girls because I feel you should know this since Torah does heavily influence the Quran.

-Thx?
beautifull………
beautifull……
I like your blog but sometimes I think that these hijab styles are not very modest its as like they are trying to imitate western fashion when we know for sure that women are not alowed to wear tight pants or pants at all. I like plain colors to mix it up a bit but some hijabs are all over the place it looks like a circus. Im proud of young girls wearing proper hijab and I just wanna remind them to make sure its modest enough. Good luck :)
Mashallah!! I live in Utah… Compared to New York and Jersey, yuck! Ahaha Inshallah I want to travel in New York and see the beautiful clothing they have. Mashallah you’re beautiful and keep it up!
u seem to love wearing it?? but i’d rather tell u not to wear in UR CASE.. the main use of wearing the hijab is to cover ur figure shape.. so whats the use of wearing it while its so short and while wearing those clothes? especially the last picture on the grass.. u should be ashamed to coment on ur friends as atleast their not making the mistake of wearing it and showing off their figure.
n im looking forward for a reply..
i’m egyptian too!! :D but i live in Australia :(
uncool-hijab :D)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
sorry but this is not hijab. the clothes are tight and form fitting and hair is showing. just sayin’
