As salaamu alaykum!

@ kiyana—> I like this look, too, but what I love even more is the prices for the items are so unbelievably (spell?) affordable, masha’Allah! BTW, what’s an Oscar party?

I love how black looks with hot pink! Inshallah I’ll try this when I go to my classes next time.

@Um Hazim: I’m not sure what people would do at an Oscar party. I imagine sit and watch the Oscars and maybe have some food and tea? And maybe apply henna on each other and let it dry during the program? LOL hey that actually sounds fun!

This outfit is gorgeous! Masallah. I am trying to find stylish long skirts but have no luck, so I may buy something online, do you have any suggestions? It is hard to find Islamic-appropriate clothing in the stores these days. That’s why I love this website! :)

This is such a cute look! It is definitely something that is very easy to put together and is in most of of our wardrobes already. Very cute yet simple.

I like it, I combine bright colours with black as well, although that pink wouldn’t be flattering on me (I have pinkish-coloured face so it looks weird with something pink close to it). i think the ankle-length booths are a very good option for winter. knee-length ones are sometimes to warm even in winter, and they normally cost more, just because it takes more fabric to make them. We don’t show that part of our legs anyway so there’s just no point. Maybe with a long dress it’s a good idea just because when you walk up the stairs some parts of your legs are still showing.
I love the sweater although it might end up looking a bit granny-like if it’s not accessorized well.

Please sisters, if you do wrap your scarf like her’s, do make sure you have coverage under your neck. The neck, breats, and hair should be covered by your khimar. She does look lovely and modest besides that neck glimpse though, and I love the colour. An underscarf would make the look completely lovely. MashaAllah sis, pink looks so good on you!

I’m starting out a hijabi blog / online store my self (from Indonesia), can I link your blog in mine?

Please check out my store, hopefully you’ll find it interesting. I promise I’ll keep on adding new stuff in there ?

Norhikma Salam Alakum,

I’m a big fan of Newport News and Spiegel. They have some suits and some work separates that have longer jackets. I’m a stay at home mom so I am not in big need of a power suit but I do have one on my wish list just in case, I need to look professional for a day. :)

Sr. Norhikmah,

I guess I don’t really know where you live, but this isn’t the best time to shop for suits, since much of the stuff for the season is in cotton or linen – I’m assuming you are looking for crepe and suiting. Generally, the Talbots, Appleseeds, JJill, Ann Taylor and Chadwicks websites have longer suits and suit jackets. Right now, surprisingly the Victoria’s Secret web site has a number of longer line jackets (cover the bum). When I worked a corporate job, I found the most exquisite things at higher end consignment and second hand stores, because fashion is fickle and it could be that you cannot find anything because really short jackets are in this season, whereas shopping second hand or consignment you could find a really beautiful, non-dated, modest suit. Then there is the option of having something made (doesn’t have to cost a fortune) and suits are investment wear anyway.

I ordered a couple of the pashmina’s, i dont know if my head is just big or what, lol, but one is not wide enough to wear alone. I have to double up on them to get the coverage in the back.

I love this site and I am so glad that I came across it. I recently converted to Islam and this helps with finding clothes in my closet that I can pull together for a modest look. Thanks.

I need advice on something. I recently purchased a BEAUTIFUL maxi dress..now, here I see a lot of women wearing maxis with cropped sweaters. Even lovely Sister Jodi mentioned she likes to wear cropped sweaters. I am thinking about ordering one, because I can’t find the exact one in stores but I am afraid that it will look plain silly.. The reason why is I am 5’11 and I feel like it might look disproportioned. any advice or anyone has had success or not such success wearing cropped sweaters?

“this not hijab. this hijab get to jahanam khalidin wallah end good hijab jilbab get to paradis inchaaalah”
?!
really? before you go off criticizing your sisters in God about something they do FOR GOD, learn some English.

@ Valerie: I’m kinda on the tall side and a size 4-6, and I wear cropped sweaters all the time. It probably won’t make you look disproportioned. Try one on in a store if you wanna be sure.

Valerie

Well, I ordered the one I liked but I’m still scared that it might not work. I’m afraid that it’s going to look like I’m wearing my 3 year old daughter’s sweater. :) I am more full figured and I’m afraid it will emphasize my curves instead of conceal them.. I don’t plan on buttoning it though, we’ll see..This one is REAL short it’s 14 1/2 inches long… but its the perfect color and light weight.. I’m gonna take a risk and try it… if it don’t work, its no big deal…thanks for your input though.

Have any of you sisters ordered from aab abayas? They have a beautiful collection of abayas, they are about $100 but I was wondering if they are worth it. I can’t remember the exact address but google aab abayas to check them out. Where are you Sister Kima?!? I pray that you are okay.

Didn’t like. That’s not the real hijab. Hijab is much more than just wearing an scarf in one’s head, the real hijab wore by the pious sahabiyat is not this one.

Reply

aagi

ok
Mariam, are you saying that the ONLY REAL hijab is with what? abaya? jilbab? explain, please cause i can’t see anything bad in what she’s wearing – she’s covered properly.

Really I do believe that this is a very nice look, I believe that it is islamically appropriate, what I also believe is that everyone has their own opinions. So Mariam if you don’t think this look than that’s fine, but please don’t judge or put down other sisters when they are making an effort to dress modestly in the clothes they feel comfortable in. May I also add that we are representing Islam and if all of us are covered up completely and not looking somewhat ‘normal’ then non muslims wont be comfortable in talking to us or getting to know us and our religion. That’s a lot of lost dawah.

Maryam

Sorry if you dont like this look*

But this is too tight and reveals women’s figure and beauty..We need to remember purpose of Hijab,is to conceal our beauty and not to display it ..

Assalam Alaikum!

Thanks sisters for the lovely compliments. I just want to add that I am a revert to Islam, about 2 1/2 years ago. I myself feel completely comfortable in my beliefs on Islam, but sometimes people and their negative comments push sisters away from the masjid and deen in general. People need to stop criticizing other’s if they don’t share the same beliefs. You never know where someone is coming from and their struggles. By people being critical and talking down on others, I feel is gossip and backbiting, it’s not encouragement. You never know, sisters who don’t wear hijab at all might have a closer relationship with Allah Subhanna Wa Ta Ala and be in Jinnah, while others who do wear hijab may not. Allah is the all seer and judge on judgment day. What matters most is that we are all sisters and believe in Islam and we should embrace our differences. By me wearing hijab and being a white American, I find very many opportunities to give dawah and I find that very fascinating.

Ma Salama,
Jodi :)

To Maryam! Your reasons are not good reasons. You will sacrifice your place in Jannah for the non muslims, because they will not talk with you? Its a weak reason and it sound like the word of the outcast shaytaan.
Protect yourself, your modesty and do what Allah ordered you to do. Also, if people see that the muslims dont wear modest clothes, they will see that we dont follow our religion, so it will mean for them that islam is not correct.
Islam isnt only in muslim countries, its everywhere. Allah see us wherever we are. First worry about yourself and that YOU will come to Jannah or not. AFTER worry about the non muslims. The true knowledge is out there about islam, and they are interested they will know.
I live in Norway, i wear abaya to school and i cover myself. Still people talk with me, and they ask ME about ISLAM! I dont know you, and i dont know how you dress, this is up to you. I hope you accept this comment with an open heart. We are sisters, and we give good advice to eachother. One of the muslims right is that when he/she do something wrong, someone tell him/her and remind of what is correct.

Dont forget Allah. Dont forget Jannah! This life is short and take good use of it to get the reward of Jannah!
