HIJAB ESSENTIALS : NORMA KAMALI for WALMART
I don’t check Walmart.com as often as I probably should. Like Target, Walmart has started to collaborate with well-known fashion designers to create affordable collections for the masses.
Right now, they are selling some fabulously affordable Hijab Essentials that are designed by Norma Kamali and I’m about to go to the Walmart store to check them out first hand.
#1 on my shopping list is the Button-Down Tunic Shirt. We all know how necessary tunics are for a hijabi’s wardrobe. Walmart has this style in 3 basic colors: black, white, and pink – and they only cost $20!
The second thing on my list is the Zip Hooded French Terry Jacket Dress. This costs $20 too. Pair it with some workout pants and you have a nice, modest, hijab-friendly outfit to wear for working out. You would be hard pressed to find such an affordable workout outfit at an Islamic clothing store.
The last thing that I want to check out is the Long V-Neck Cardigan. This style of cardigan has been popular since last season, but I have never seen them on sale for $10 before now.
So, what do you think about Norma Kamali for Walmart? Have you purchased any of the pieces?

Hey you scooped me! I was going to blog about her line in Wal-Mart ;) You’ve got more readers though, so it’s better that you talk about her too because her stuff looks great. I was in a hurry when I flew by her line in Wal-Mart. I only got to run around the rack once and didn’t buy anything. I may though.
Thanks for the comments ladies!
@Dara: Sorry for scooping you! :-) They actually don’t even have the collection in my Walmart store yet. I may just have to order them online.
@Valerie: I loved Norma Kamali for Spiegel! Too bad she didn’t make anymore clothes for them. But either way, Spiegel usually carries alot of hijab-friendly clothes… Although they can be a little pricey sometimes.
I love the gray V-Neck Cardigan. I do have two two of them blue and black. I use it often if I have a short top and will cover some more, and cheap too (:

These sure are cute and hijab-friendly outfits! :) I really like the cardigan!
But keep in mind that Walmart sells extremely low-quality merchandise, so whatever
you buy there for $10 is probably worth what it costs—not much.
Also, Walmart’s policy towards its workers’ basic rights and its blatant disrespect for the environment have made me decide to stop shopping there altogether.
I’d rather spend more money knowing that the clothing I buy is of good quality, and encourage a business which actually cares for my country and its people. :)
Suprising they have something worthwhile. I usually never give Walmart the time of day, since they are well known for violating workers rights.
Great! Last week I bought 2 cardignan similar to the #3 :

and this one : http://www.bootlegger.com/catalog/womens/sweaters/id/2012
I looove them! And it is really great to wear at work with a long shirt under.
Norma Kamali has had a line of clothing for Spiegel as well. I like her because she has so many nice, modest pieces. It’s like she has the modest concious woman in mind. I have a nice long denim blazer that is very good quality . I bought it just a couple months ago, but I just tried searching her on the Spiegel website but nothing came up.. She may be exclusively at Walmart now. I don’t know for sure.

for me, the best way for islamic women dressing is :
(i) not tight
(ii) not short until others can see your body shape
(iii) not transparent
(iv) wearing hijab..cover your hair and head
(v) the hijab must long enough to cover your chest
the best dress is taqwa ilallah.. =)
for dressing guidelines, you can refer to qoran..

ima beg my mom to take me to walmart, not that ill have to since we go there ALL the time. but i hope that #3 has other colours besides grey, i have too much grey already
I appreciate the care Sr. Kima takes in choosing clothing. For my purposes, the cardigan styles shown are too clingy. They work okay on the model who is a stick figure but I think would show too many curves on a sister who has more going on in terms of bust and hips/bottom. I guess, I feel that sweater knits (like jersey) are tricky that way. On the positive, I like the colors and the graphic on the T-shirt.
I agree with Alix. Although the outfits are really cute and hijab friendly, I have stopped shopping at Walmart and encouraged others to stop shopping there also. I think now days alot of companies are coming out with tunic and longer style clothing which is great for the hijabi…Target is usually moderately priced and if your lucky may find some great stuff!
