WE LOVE HIJAB LOVES : TOP FASHION TRENDS OF 2008

From now until the end of the year, I’ll be counting down ten of my top fashion trend favorites of 2008. Starting with the Purple Trend.

From almost-blue to bright lavender, the many shades of purple denote a feeling of richness that is hard to resist. It’s one of my favorite colors and when done in an airy, feminine dress like the one above, purple is a regal addition for any sister who rocks hijab with style.

For the outfit, I chose gray plaid pants, a lightweight gray pashmina hijab, classic black pumps, a cream clutch with gold accents, and a large gold cocktail ring. This look would be perfect for work or Jummah, but hijabis like me would probably wear it any day of the week!

Additional Links:
[1] Kenneth Jay Lane Gold Pyramind Dome Ring, $100. [2] Gray Pashmina Hijab, $9. [3] Hobo International Gwyneth Clutch, $124. [4] BCBGirls Black Katchen Pump, $51+. [5] The Perfect Plaid Trouser, $54.99.

Love it! Although I could never spend that much $$ on a ring or purse. I would go cheap on accessories from Target.

I really appreciate the way you put together some looks. I’m an American convert and I am uncomfortable in the traditional abaya. Plus, I work as an accountant for a large organization. Your ideas have spruced up my hijabi look! Thank you.

I love purple. I most certainly would wear this to Jumuah. Probably sans heels b/c I don’t wear them typically. I wore a similar outfit to Jumuah awhile back-plaid pants with a black pleated dress.

If you are a sister who only rocks abaya or jilbab daily or to Jumuah I think you can still be inspired-perhaps by incorporating the rich purple tone or soft ruffles into your overgarment : )

I LOVE the dress & pants and shayla! I can’t wear high heals but some nice princess flats would look great! And the ring is a bit flashy for my tastes. But overall very nice look!!!
Thanks for the suggestions! Masha’Allah!

But I notice in all of your outfits you have heels. Aren’t they haram?

Salam Aishah,
High heels have been very controversial with most sisters for a while, because some sisters compare it to “striking their feet in order to draw attention to their ornaments,” which referred to women who purposely walked in such a way that their anklets, etc. jingled with their every step.
Because of the use of the word “purposely,” I believe that it’s all in your intentions. If someone wore high heels because she thought they’d look good with whatever outfit she was wearing, I think that’s fine. However, wore heels and struck her feet on the ground out of arrogance (in order to draw attention to herself) I think that would be haram. Modesty is not only about sexual attention, it is about not being arrogant. If someone purposely strikes their feet on the ground in a “omg-look-at-me-i’m-entering-the-room-and-should-be-the-center-of-attention-cuz-i’m-just-that-great” kind of way, that’s being arrogant, which is not a good trait for anyone, Muslim or not.
Of course, I don’t mean to make you unwillingly wear heels or anything. I’m just stating my opinon, and I hope I didn’t offend you. And if you don’t prefer to wear heels, you can always substitute black ballerina flats or gladiator sandals for the heels!!
Salam, Lyla

Lyla, you didn’t offend me at all!
I only really asked because I read somewhere, I think it was a Hadith, which says you shouldn’t wear heels because they are cheating people because you’re making yourself seem taller. I can’t find it anymore though :S

Thanks for your opinion though!!! &I totally agree with you ,ballerina shoes are cute :)

hey sisierss!! salam i wanna ask a question is it haram 2 wear pants ………????!!! its killin me i hear so many things like uts haram because u resemble a man or smething i wanna get it straight is it or isnt???!!

IKRAM

@ Ikram:
Salam. In my opinion, pants are not haram. Unless you are purposely wearing very manly looking pants, you will most likely not look like a man. If someone were to see your wide leg jeans and mistake you for a man because of them, they should invest in glasses or contact lenses. So no, I don’t believe pants will make a woman look like a man unless they are in fact men’s pants.

@Fariha;

If that ‘crap go to hijab school dumb ass’ was directed at me – or even if it wasn’t-, then you should learn some manners. I was asking if heels were haram to find out and make myself a better Muslim, you shouldn’t make comments like that just to put people down when they’re trying to learn things that they didn’t already know. Besides, youre opinion migth differ from someone else’s, so there’s no ‘dumb ass’ about it.

I agree with Aishah. Fariha, you need to stop being so rude. What kind of sister in God are you??!
