HIJAB STYLE REMIX : BLAKE LIVELY

I love the look of wearing a cropped vest over a long shirtdress and this modesty makeover featuring Blake Lively is the perfect opportunity to showcase that style. What I love about Blake’s look is that it combines a classic striped shirt with modern pants and trendy oxford pumps. I also like how the pop of red in the shoes turns her otherwise conservative outfit into something a little more fashiondy.

To make this outfit hijab-friendly, I chose a striped shirtdress (which I own and love!), wide-leg jeans and a white pashmina to finish off the look. As for the vest, since they’re usually tight on the body, the best way for hijabis to wear them is to simply leave them unbuttoned. All in all, you get that classic menswear-inspired look while leaving your stylish modesty completely in intact.

Assalaamu ‘Alaikum sister,

Alhamdulillah, you’re finally back!! :-)
I love this outfit you brought together, the combination of layers and colors is just wonderful. I really like the shoes, they’re too cute!

kahleeka 10.28.08 at 12:55 pm

Mashallah love this outfit

Sara 10.28.08 at 9:22 pm

In reality though, if you’re anything larger than stick thin, then this outfit will just make you look huge. With a shirtdress that long, you need pants with a somewhat slimmer leg than these ones. And vests look really really messy when left open + add volume to your figure. I’ve tried and it doesn’t work, and have yet to see anyone pull this off.

maryam lee 10.28.08 at 9:55 pm

Salaam I’m new here! This is really cute. I have a few of the dresses from Tar-Jay too and they look good with my suit vest. BTW I’m not stick thin!!!!!! ;) We don’t have to wear skinny pants just cause we have a long dress sister Sara. Plus it’s not allowed anyway. Only way it might look weird is if your pants are too long so you have to wear heels to get the long lean look!!! maryam

maryam lee 10.28.08 at 9:57 pm

plus black (the vest) is slimming anyway!! ;) Wa-Salaam sisters

JazzakAllah khairan
I’m wearing a grey pashmina instead with my white with grey pinstripe shirt dress, over wide leg jeans with you guessed it…oxford red pump…although, throw in a red matching handbag to tie the look together…
You inspire me! thanx again sister…

Salaam sisters,
I just visited Spiegel.com and they have some really nice “hijabi” clothing. Especially loving the kimono sleeved long cardigans…nice prices too…enjoy!

Elyas Andalus 11.01.08 at 9:35 am

Asalam Aleikum;

Sister i just want to say that this type of clothing is no allowed in Islam (nº1 and nº4); you will create fitnah; an less you use a Home, see Dress Code for Sister.

Women should not wear high shoes:

Narrated by Abu Sa’eed Al Khudri, Allah’s Apostle said :” A Jewish women used to put two wooden legs to lengthen her shoes, so that no one could recognise her, for she was very short.” The Prophet forbade this action that is a kind of cheating others.

Sorry for any thing,
Asalam Aleikum

Ass Wr Wb

I Heart The shirt dress…. sweet and simple… I should invest in the vest… may give abit of a slimming touch….

for Sister Elyas…. is #1 Haram because of the sleeve are 7/8????? Well if you look closely it is rolled up and able to be rolled down for full length…

All in all… welcome back and love love love it… keep up the great combinations :D

Salaams Sisters,
I know this comment has nothing to do with the blog but I found a website aabuk.com I love their black raw silk abaya and want to get one but they are way too expensive!!! The abaya is 80 pounds and the shipping to USA is 20 pounds! Do any of you guys know where I can buy an abaya similar to this that might be more affordable. I really want it to be raw silk because it’s a light material that I can layer over, I live in Texas!!! Please help me…..

Khalisa 11.03.08 at 3:26 pm

salaamu ‘alaykum!
i LOVE THIS site! (glad to see you back, too.) i’ve been hijaabi for years and years, but have learned so many fashion tricks here, mashALLAH. i teach young muslimahs [who sometimes admire non-muslims a little TOO much], and i plan to use this site to show them how beautiful hijaab is, as well as how creative they can be with it.
btw, that shirtdress is fly!

atiya 11.16.08 at 10:53 am

mashallah i liked it

Guzal 11.18.08 at 12:40 pm

Salam Aleykum, thank you for the site, I am hijabless, but really planning and want to put it on. I was afraid that it will affect my university studies and future careere plans. This is site helps, because one can see that wearing hijab doesn’t mean stop being trendy :)
Thank you sister.

amani 11.25.08 at 2:38 am

Sister,

Elyas Andalus please see this link on Sunni Path. I think Shayk Faraz Rabanni may be a little more knowledgable than us on this subject.

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=4182&CATE=90

Also, as another poster stated, the shirt’s sleeves can be unrolled for full modesty ;-)

lafemmenoir 12.15.08 at 12:49 am

Mashallah. I am very happy to see you sisters back… I was beginning to worry about you.

leylah 12.23.08 at 9:59 pm

i like you guys’ idea, but in my opinion the shirt doesnt have to be that long..it would look weird with the vest. the wide-leg jeans are modest enough!

no offense to you guys that wear extremely long shirts, jilbabs and stuff like that–i just dont agree.
