Hijab Fashion Video

Dubai Street Style

A recent edition of Current TV’s Street Style series featured Dubai fashionistas. There were only a couple hijabis featured and although their clothing may have been too snug for me, it’s always cool to see hijab fashion videos in my opinion.

Celeritas 07.29.08 at 10:39 pm

The brother’s in dishdasha look great, I wish they had interviewed a Khaliji sis but the hijabis that they did interview look cool although I wouldn’t wear skinny jeans or tight sleeves.

rizwana 07.29.08 at 11:08 pm

Val 07.30.08 at 1:00 am

I was sent the link to this video today as well…apparently great minds think alike..haha anyways I just love watching video’s on hijab. I myself am not a hijabi yet but Inshallah I will be soon. I love to see how women wear hijab different.

Paige 07.30.08 at 4:03 am

This was a nice video. Its always nice to see different styles. mmmmm IDK about the Skinny Jeans, but who am I to judge? Also I was cracking up when that guy said “Go Gangsta” I was rollin!

Habiba 07.30.08 at 3:49 pm

I really liked the videos. It’s nice to see Muslim brothers covered up and carrying their modesty as well

Umm Salihah 08.01.08 at 6:25 pm

Thanks for that, I enjoyed watching this video. I wish they’d interviewed a woman in more traditional dress/abaya.

Hailey 08.02.08 at 12:12 am

The men in Dubai sure look effeminate.

Melissa 08.03.08 at 2:36 am

OMG! I so want to go and live in Dubai. Thx for the video. Even though I’m NOT Muslim I do like your site. I hope you can find time to update more often inshallah.

Ruqiyyah 08.03.08 at 7:04 am

AH!!!
I MISS UAE!
But that was pretty interesting. I usually see mostly gals in abaya and guys in their dishdashis, so it was interesting to see the other side of dubai.

But I would definitely not call Emarati men effeminate. In general they are pretty rugged looking. Even very well groomed ones give off that manly-man air. But there are a lot of metro guys too.

It’s a really great place. Loooove!

Nadia 08.04.08 at 8:18 am

hmm looked like what i call 1/4th hijab. But very interesting..

Ice-T 08.07.08 at 2:05 pm

Just wanna say:
Attractive hijab ? Tight clothes, make up… it is not its function at first, no ?
Traditionnal clothes in the Gulf are disappearing, eaten by american style!

Rachida 08.08.08 at 12:26 pm

Hijaab is not a vogue object!!

UmmZahra 08.08.08 at 3:37 pm

Go gangstar, just straight out. lol

G Syeda 08.09.08 at 1:10 am

Anonymous 08.09.08 at 2:06 pm

Naima 08.11.08 at 6:48 pm

This is not how us muslims should be wearing our clothes and hijaabs. Shame on al of the people who think that it’s cool and gangster. May Allah(swt) guid us all!

parachuu 08.15.08 at 7:35 pm

haha this made me laugh :D looks like UAE’s adopted the westerny style hijab :)

Akeedah 08.15.08 at 10:35 pm

cant believ that guy said “go gangster” cmon dude… u for real?

lol

Lain 08.16.08 at 4:00 am

Chill out people. Let others style themselves the way they want.

Not everyone wants to trudge around in a long abaya. Some people find that kinda boring y’know? Even with the sequins and sparklies.

Just, people should stop judging. So maybe their outfits aren’t 100% guaranteed certified Halal. So what. It’s that person’s problem. They are probably aware of that and still chose to wear it. So end of story. It’s their life.

We’re the ones who were granted free will, right?

It just gets kind of annoying when someone wearing a fairly imaginative outfit gets ambushed by a bunch of holier-than-thou people.

Relax people.

Frankly, the video was pretty cool. It showed the very cosmopolitan air of Dubai.

And what’s wrong with hijab being a vogue item?
Not all girls are the let’s-hide-in-the-house-except-for-grocery -shopping type

I LIKE THAT VIDEO!!! I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW THAT LADY HAD HER HEAD WRAPPED. THE ONE WITH THE DIOR GLASSES. I’M GOING TO A SPECIAL EVENT AND I THINK THAT WOULD BE FLY.

Sabina 08.16.08 at 9:55 am

Assalam alaikum wr wb! Sisters, I need some help. I’m trying to dress more modestly and I want to know where’s a good place to buy wide-leg jeans. Also, I would really like some light-weight cardigans and since I live in the blazing heat of Dubai, it’s unlikely to be available here till the winter. Are Port Authority or Newport News cardigans from Amazon.com good quality and light-weight? Jazakhallah Khair, sisters!

chaltu 08.16.08 at 2:14 pm

dubai style

Habayeb 08.16.08 at 9:48 pm

Yeah i wish they’d interviewed me :P

Saliha 08.18.08 at 10:44 pm

I think the girl with the poncho looks so classy! The style of the skinny jeans hijabi is very common here in Europe, wouldn’t wear it myself though. Thanx for posting the video.

Maria 08.19.08 at 2:27 am

salaam brothers and sisters ,,
I just started wearing headscarf, hijaab and now also nikaab and its only benn 3 months max and iv got to admit it makes you fell like a True Musilm under Allah’s(swt) will, you fell more protected. The video was good but thats really not how you dress in Islam. If you wear headscarf you should cover up fully, skinny jeans is so not in. sorry to say but people would look and never say thats a Muslim girl, they would respect you wear headscarf but when they look down at the clothes they would be disgusted. I know becuase i was like that before, but im happy Ive changed right in time with my life. Id really like to see it updated and Insh’Allah I visit Dubai one day. take care, Jazakhallah Khair. brothers and sisters x

Those who spend time judging others need to GET A LIFE. Everyone can have their opinion and agree to disagree and not judge. I respect everyone’s choice for themselves as long as it hurts no one else. Hooray for the eclectic dressers who are making the effort to be modern and modest. Life is meant to be enjoyed!!

Aisha20.UK 09.07.08 at 12:14 am

Salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu! Ramadan Mubaarak! I would like to express my point of view regarding the video… Well, those women were totally covered and their clothes are acceptable in Islamic sharia, because they cover the colour of the skin and only face and hands are exposed, however it is better for them to cover also the line of their bodies, as we are commanded not to tempt men and to protect ourselves – and the ayat regarding this matter is interpreted in many different ways -some scholars translate it: ”(…) to wrap their cloaks (abaya) over their bodies” – while other scholars translate: ”(…) to put a veil over their chests” – meaning, that a woman must cover her chests properly with a veil so not to tempt anyone. This is also refering to khimar, or a head veil that covers also the chest. And of course, the rest of the body must not be exposed and the clothing should be modest, so it should not be too tight nor skinny, it should be loose fitting, of course, but it is not necessary to wear very wide loose abayas and baggy garments that simply do not look tidy. It is essential to cover the shape of the body, but the garment we use may be little bit less wide than a traditional burka – the only condition is that the piece of clothing does not touch the skin or is not so close to the skin that all the lines are clearly visible. This is the correct hijaab. YET, IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO DRESS LIKE THE SISTERS IN THE VIDEO WERE DRESSED, BUT IT IS NOT THE PURPOSE OF HIJAAB, AS THE HIJAAB IS MEANT TO HIDE THE BEAUTY, NOT TO REVEAL IT. If you dress the way they do, then you are covered enough, but it is very close to the lack of hijaab in general and it is also far from the perfect dress code which Islam has set up. Therefore, you should dress more modestly and you can still wear stylish and beautiful clothes that please you, that you like – but which are not so revealing. Hope answered the question, hehehe… ;)- (Who likes Dr. Zakir Naik on Peace TV…???? ;))))- I admire how knowledgeable he is and I like his way of preaching, mashallah! Watch ”Dare to ask” and ”Truth exposed” on Peace TV and you will enjoy seeking knowledge about our religion! ;)) Salaam! Aisha

Nadia 10.12.08 at 7:42 am

There is nothing new on this website for a loooong time. I hope you are doing well sister

Aaya 10.24.08 at 3:04 pm

Calm down people, there’s nothing wrong with what the women are wearing, just because they want to be a little creative. Not everyone wants to go around in a black abaya! Anyway very cool video i loved the first girls outfit!I would so love to go to dubai inshallah! I live in britain but my parents are from yemen, it’s so sad that yemeni women are dressed in full neqab. Trust me if you go with your face uncovered you get A LOT of stares, let alone a long top and jeans!

aziza 10.24.08 at 11:31 pm

i live here in dubai and i see many fashion statements all the time!!im so happy some1 posted a video like this one i cant wait to send some of me and my friends pics in with hope u get to see them!!!!
