Islamic Clothing Finds: Maxi Dress

ISLAMIC CLOTHING FINDS

Today’s Adore Du Jour is this lovely maxi dress by B.B. Dakota ($56). There are a few things that make this dress such a great Islamic clothing find. For one thing, the dress is made of a woven cotton fabric, which is more modest then the jersey-knit fabric that many maxi dresses are made of. Secondly, the fit of the dress is very full from the waistline to the hemline, which is great for covering up our curves. And lastly, the print on the dress is a multi-colored floral pattern that can be paired with a variety of hijab and jacket colors. You can wear this dress over and over again this summer without repeating the same exact look twice!

For the “Wear it with…” portion of the collage, we gave you 3 different jacket options at 3 different price levels. We chose a neutral jacket to match the solid hemline of the dress and included three different hijab options that can work with that outfit. Which jacket and hijab would you choose?

  • You put together such nice ensembles, but could you please keep full figured Hijabi’s in mind when doing them?

I rarely find the items you link to in anything bigger than a large (and we all know we need to wear a size larger most of the time to prevent clothes from being too tight)

I never thought being full figured would make it so hard to dress nicely and modestly, but unless its abaya or jilbab every day it is very hard

  • These posts are absolutely beautiful but I think there is too much focus on Maxi-dresses. They are beautiful, but how about looking at a wider range of alternatives?

  • oooo i would def wear this with the least-expensive jacket, and the pink scarf =)
i dont think the purple one would match it, but the green or pink would. But i still think i need to grow a few more inches and lose a few more pounds before i can succesfully wear a maxi dress without looking like a bag =)

  • Also Sisters,
Be very aware of the see throughness of some dresses. I would only recomned a long slip dress under those cute summer dresses.
    Peace

  • Jamie don’t avoid the prints! Plenty of plus size women shy away from flared skirts and large prints thinking it’ll make them look like THE big tent sale. However, prints can be a beauty on any woman at any size. We just have to pair it in different ways. My sis who’s a plus sized beauty gave a personal fatwa on stripes, polka dots, and horizontal stripes three years ago, but now she’s the first to snatch up the passover patterns on the plus-sized clearance rack (have you ever noticed that clearance racks-especially plus sized racks are filled with patterns?) The trick is to do a longer tailored (not tight) jacket if you have a larger frame or go for a jacket with a less neutral color. Yes, I said a less neutral color. Conventiional wisdom would have larger women grab a neutral. However, this just makes your top portion seemingly dissaapear and make the rest of you say HELLOOOOOOO! If my sis were to go for this dress and wanted a short jacket to pair, I’d tell her to hunt for the teal or pink color in the dress. The darker color pulls the eye up and balances the pattern- and the body. Now if this dress had neon colors……that’d be a different story.
