mashaAllah. i love all your designs, but i have a problem. i have a muslim wedding reception soon (walima) and have no idea what to wear to it. any sisters have any ideas?
Salaam all,
I’d like to ask everyone to keep in mind that SHUKR isn’t for everyone–while I love their designs and business practices, the shirts are consistently too short in the sleeves.
If you’re about as tall as I am (5′7″) the sleeves will probably be short.
Just letting people know *sadface*. I wish I didn’t have to wear arm warmers with all my SHUKR shirts, it’s a bit annoying.
That said, enjoy the shirts if they do fit you!!
ditto, the sleeves are really not long enough. I also have problems of the bottoms; my size should be small while I’m 5′6” tall, which makes their long skirts actually not long enough for me. This problem is easier to solve since I can wear a belt on a medium size skirt. How sad! I generally LOVE all shukr design!
love the format of this post!!!! it’s 3 in the morning on the east coast – i should get to bed now! hehehe :-D
Salam ladies!
Malak – Thanks for the compliment! :o) Do you wear abayas? If you have a nice black one, you can easily dress it up for the walima. You could wear it with a metallic shoe and a dressy hijab. Any other ideas for her?
Lorelei – I have heard a few complaints about Shukr’s sizing, but I’ve heard way more good reviews about them… I guess everyone’s experience will be different ya know?
Daphy – I’m the same height as you and I’m really surprised to hear that their long skirts aren’t exactly long enough for us average-height-girls! *SIGH*
Lina – Thanks doll! I hope you got some rest! :o)
I ordered a skirt from Shukr a while ago, and it ended up being far too long for me! I am on the short side though, but it seems no one is happy with the sizings!
Malak – you could wear a maxi dress with a cropped jacket/shrug on top!
Hayah – You sound like today’s Haute Hijabi with your maxi dress/cropped jacket suggestion! :o) Check out her Old Navy dress in the collage… Too bad it’s from last summer!
Salaam,
ohhhh sis I really like this outfit! the colors and style is just awesome :D
love that shirt, but all your complaints have me hesitating to order it!
:-/
omg! adore du jour is ~ ADORABLE! everyday please!??!
I haven’t ordered from Shukr yet; does anybody here have a good experience with them?
Oh so pretty!!! JAZAKS for the find. :D
Don’t worry about it too much, you may as well try SHUKR because if it works out, it’s such a great experience! They have really great customer service in addition to the awesome designs and good business practices.
It’s just that I’m a bit tall and lanky, so by measurements I wear a small for tops and medium for skirts. The skirts are generally fine for me, perhaps a bit too short for my liking, but oh-so-cute.
The customer service people are really helpful, so if you’re not sure about the sizing for you from the info on the site (and they usually do provide measurements, particularly for skirt length), you can contact them and they’re really gracious and helpful.
I ordered a shirt from Shukr back in the fall. I am 5′11″ and I am size XL but it was pretty true to fit. The length in the arms is fine. I guess it is has to do with the size you order. I love the shirt. I wear it a lot because it is such a good staple. I’ve wanted to order a dress from them but I fear that it will be too short because in the size chart it specifically says sizes are designed for up to 5′9″.. anyway..I just want to say this is the BEST website. After I converted and became a mother, I lost my sense of style..I wore things that I really didn’t like just because they were modest enough. This has really helped me realize that shopping can be fun again. YAY!! Thank you everyone who contributes.
Oh sorry I didn’t state it clear. SHUKR has very high quality of clothes. I love the touch of the skirts I ordered; they are so gentle and look great. Size S can’t cover my ankles, but size M is long enough (S is for 5″-5.2″ tall, M is for 5.3″-5.5″, and I’m 5′6″); I just need a belt to tighten the M skirt.
Everyone should try SHUKR :) If the size is good for you, it’s such a GREAT online store (good design, good quality, and fair-trade-like business).
If any sisters want to order from SHUKR in the next couple days, put in discount code SPRING10 at checkout and save 10%. It’s only valid for new arrivals like this tunic and until April 23rd.
As-salaamu alaykum:
I hope this finds all in the best of health.
I know I’m a little late here, but hopefully these comments will be recorded for posterity. After all, if I’m reading through the archives, article after article, other sisters are too! :)
Regarding sizing, we at SHUKR are aware that some people do encounter size issues with various aspects of our clothing. Please do know that we are diligently working to improve our cuts and sizing standards. Over the past few years, we’ve gone from clothing that was too wide and boxy to clothing that was a little too figure fitting. Hopefully, now, we are finding the happy medium.
We do, for the future, intend to introduce a new line of sizing related to height so that a sister can purchase a Small-Petite, Small-Average, and Small-Tall. As a short person myself, I am very familiar with the added cost of having to have all of my clothing (and I mean all of it) altered. We hope to alleviate that for some ladies in the future.
We are currently working on and testing a new feature that will give you detailed measurements for each individual garment (sleeve lengths, etc) as well as fabric information — to help you make a more informed choice. We hope to have that up and running within a month, insha’Allah.
I would also like to say thank you to all the sisters who said such good things about our services and site. It really means a lot to the sisters who work here to hear people say that they appreciated our hard work in the design and customer service areas. I will be passing this on to the other ladies here, as a means of encouragement.
Thank you again.

Masha-allah, what a pretty shirt. I do like it very much, and I’m seriously thinking of getting my skirts and shirts adjusted with buttons so that I can mix and match them and still be wearing a one-piece overgarment. (I’ve recently decided that I want to jilbab).
You know, I get out so little that I dress up in my hijabi styles at home sometimes? XDDD My mom’s like, “You’re at home, take that hijab off!”
