THE RUNWAY :

Whether you classify them as Americana, Nautical, or Novel, stripes are a classic yet fashion-forward trend for Spring 2008. A few thoughts…

1. RICK OWENS’ Ready To Wear collection featured a number of outfits that were a mash-up of stripes in a variety of colorways and widths. Is it tacky or très chic? You be the judge.

2. This look by SALVATORE FERRAGAMO reminds me of an old-fashioned bathing suit. Very “vacationing by the beach” with the sunglasses, bangles, and sandals.

3. ANN DEMEULEMEESTER presented a few looks that featured these silky striped wide leg pants. Some of the outfits were topped off with structured suit jackets, but the pants still look more like pajama bottoms to me.

4. TORY BURCH’s look is the most wearable because it features a narrower stripe than the others. The look is also quite modest don’t you think?

Jazz Stripe Dress, $79.99

French Connection describes this dress as having 3/4 sleeves, but they look pretty long to me. When wearing this top, you would want to make sure that your hijab covers the front of your body because the jersey fabric (and horizontal stripes) will really make your chest stand out.

Stripe Silk Dress, $49.99

This dress is not just lovely and luxe, it is also very slimming. The vertical stripes on this one create the illusion of a long and lean shape. While they won’t make you look like a size 2, they’ll definitely minimize your curviness – which adds to the modesty factor! Wear this dress with black pants and a blazer – in red if you dare!

Striped Tunic Shirt, $27.00

This top has a more subtle stripe and can be worn with a sturdy long skirt for work. It is a 3/4 sleeve top so you’ll want to layer it with something that has long sleeves for proper coverage.

Double-Zip Tunic Sweater, $19.99

While I like the pattern on this lightweight sweater, it’s obvious that it’s very formfitting. You’ll want to wear this one open on top of a woven (not knit) dress or top.

If none of the pieces listed above suit you, maybe you’ll want to go for a striped accessory like the Betsey Johnson striped pump ($99.99) or a striped (£2.99) hijab.

Are you loving or leaving the stripes trend? Talk about it below!

Ooh I just posted a gorgeous striped blazer from Zara. I’m personally not so into stripes in clothing, but definitely in accessories!

Stars and stripes are big this season but personally I wouldn’t wear stars, just seems tacky to me. Bring on the stripes though. HEHEHE!!!

I’m always nervous to wear stripes but there are some good ideas here. The French Connection dress is really cute but I think I’m too curvy to wear it :-(

I love the scarf, but it’s too small~ (21.7”x21.7”). =(

STRIPESS!! sooo zebralicious :P. not much into them, though I love those wide-legs!! haha, and I agree with you, more pajama like, init.. The last one is the best from all four (my opinion). The dresses are awsome as well..
Sigh.. I hate these models stupid poses :(. I’ve always thought they look scary, hehehe ;)

I’m so glad I’ve stumbled onto this website. I’ve been searching the net for modest yet stylish clothes for a loooong time. Here are 2 really cute items. The top has roll up sleeves so don’t worry about it being short. The wide leg pants fit nicely and cover great. Plus these are buy one and get one half off so I would definately get all the colors, hehe.
Definately a find for me.
