well, yeah it's true a lot of the older women are illiterate anyway. most of them know the basics of islam but not the depth. In the Qur'an though, it doesn't say to not wear a belt. it says to 1. wear clothing to begin with, 2. to lengthen the clothing (doesn't specify a length), and 3. to cover your bosom.this is the for the women of course. if a muslima wants to wear a belt and she is wearing a hijab then let her do so, but she must cover the accentuated part of her bosom with part of her scarf, like i said before in the last post. there is nothing wrong with that. but you do have to agree that you don't really see the shape of the model with the purple belt in the top picture. i believe that if you do want to wear a certain fashion u have to wear it correctly with the religion. that is something that i know u and i can agree on.

Well, Rolla, so what if these old women think that? Which is correct, what the Prophet and the Quran say or what these ladies say? I'm challenging lots of the elder womens' hijab ideas now because I've noticed that plenty of these ladies are hijabis without knowing the Quran and Hadith behind it! If something accentuates your figure, it is a big no-no to wear as hijab, END OF STORY. What's the point of hijab if your body is revealed anyway?

well, i don't wear a hijaab yet, i am planing to become a hijaab wearing woman. the belt style isn't a bad or wrong style. i wore a belt with a blouse and my aunt said that it's similar to when women wear belts with their thowbs. and when you see a woman wear a thowb, their bust is accentuated because of the belt. those woman wear hijaabs as well. and most of them are older, traditional, religious women. they say it's ok to wear a belt. jacket or not. plus if you wear a hijaab, you can use the length of the scarf to drape over the chest a little.

Yes, I don't approve of wearing a tight belt on purpose to get and hour glass figure either. Alhamdullillah, you give very good advice, sister.

But there's nothing wrong with belts like a loose sash, which merely drape and don't reveal.

AISHA I know where you're coming from, I am also white and people think I was brainwashed by a cult when I converted, or my husband forced me. LOL 10 years ago, mash'Allah! and more than ever grateful for Allah's guidance! I " phased" into hijab, first giving up short skirts, then short sleeves, etc. It's difficult to change your entire wardrobe, or your lifestyle, overnight. Stay strong and follow your heart :)

I like belts with my knee-length blouses, I "blouse out" the fabric so it isn't tight over my boson...That reminds me of another hijab controversy....Is it is a hijab "don't" to wear the scarf "spanish style" that is, tied behind the head like a hat? It says in the Quran that "believing women should draw their veils over their bosoms..." I've stopped wearing my scarf behind my neck, but don't presume to judge those who do. What do you think?

I once saw a very, pretty, fashion-forward Muslimah a few years ago. She was fairly young (I think late teens, early twenties) and she wore a pretty yellow sun dress that went down past her knees with a white turntleneck, a pale green cardigan (as to cover the gentle tapering of her waist) and matching loose, cotton trousers with a pair of brown boots. Her hajib was a layered yellow and dark green style.

I just wanted to share this to you all as to show that, yes, you can be fashion-forward and perfectly hajib... or, like in my case (I'm not Muslim though I find it odd I've been reading this site all day and een absolutely inspired. Maybe I'm past my rebellious stage in life. :D) find the perfect balance between fashionista and spiritual comfort.

Thank you for reminding me about that.

in summer you can also wear just a sleeve under it cause in a shirt and that it could be too hot. i myself don't buy those ready-made sleeves cause they are way too expensive for such simple thing. i do it myself from old thick tights. u can buy them in so many colours and they aren't that expensive. you just cut the legs and you have your arm-coverage :)

i have that exact yellow dress from newport news, i dont think wearing a black trenchcoat over it would look good because the sleeves are so puffy. i think if u dont want to show that little part of your arm then wear a black (or whatever colour u want) thin long sleeve shirt under it like from old navy.
